I have a new crochet stitch that I am just in love with. It is called the V Stitch and it is very easy and simple to crochet many different projects using this stitch. I have already used the stitch pattern to make a blanket and a scarf.
There are several different versions of the V Stitch and I do mine without a chain stitch between my double crochet stitches. It makes for a less-holey project and works up faster for me without having to chain between stitches.
To crochet the small blanket or lapghan, I chained 101 stitches to start with a H (5 mm) crochet hook. I then turn and work double crochet (DC) into the 3rd stitch from hook, *skip one chain, 2DC in next stitch* and just repeat across. End with a DC in last stitch. Chain 2 and turn. Work a 2DC in each V stitch space and end with a DC in last stitch or at top of the turning chain.
I worked two rows in each color and just carried the yarn along the sides after each color change. When I finished the length I wanted for the lapghan, I worked a row of single crochet stitching down the long side to hide the color changes. I ran out of the vintage blue yarn I was using otherwise I would of added an additional row of edging around the whole blanket. It still turned out to be a nice size lapghan with a finished width of 35 inches by 25 inches long. Again you can do more stitches to start or more rows for a bigger blanket.
My V Stitch scarf is 5-1/2 inches wide. I crocheted it using a H hook also doing the V stitch pattern without chaining between stitches.

For the scarf pattern, I started with chain 21, DC in 3rd st, 2 DC, skip, 2 DC, repeat across with DC in last st. Ch 2, turn, 2 DC in space of V across with DC in last st (top of chain.) SC along short side on both ends to finish. I crocheted to 50 inches long.
If you haven’t already tried this stitch, I hope I have inspired you with my two V stitch projects. Best wishes and happy crocheting to all!

I like this V-stitch and can’t wait to try it, but what I mostly want to say is thank you! I just found your site today (looking at your previous posts, I see that I am ONLY ten years late to the party!LOL), linked from I don’t remember where, as I was looking at recycling ideas. I am so happy to find your patterns and instructions for making yarn out of plastic grocery bags, and for crocheting them into tote bags and such. I am going to try the flat bottomed grocery tote first, and if that works out well, I will make myself a whole set of them, and will help reduce the number of plastic grocery bags floating around out there. Thanks so much for making these instructions and patterns available for free!
@Cheryl – So glad you found my site and I love your enthusiasm about recycling and trying new patterns. Let me know if you have any questions as you work the patterns as I am happy to help and answer any questions you may have. Best wishes and thanks for much for your kind comments.
Thanks Cindy, for the “new” way to do the V-stitch! Sounds good, and quicker!
@Collette – Glad you like this stitch method. Hope your project goes well. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment.
