Patriotic Rectangle Granny Blanket

I meant to post my patriotic red, white, and blue rectangle granny for the fourth of July but got distracted. So a few days late but in honor of our Country’s freedom, here is my Veteran’s honor blanket.

This blanket was crocheted for the local Veteran’s outreach program and will be given to a Veteran who needs a blanket.

Finished size of this rectangle granny blanket is 40 inches by 50. I chained 41 to start and used this free rectangle granny blanket pattern from Suzetta Williams. I have made this pattern before and have a few modifications that you are read more about here.

I just delivered this rectangle granny blanket to my local VA outreach representative. They come once a month from Spokane and each month I try and have a charity craft donation for them. The VA outreach program rep takes the items back to the VA hospital and uses them where needed.

I love the look of a granny blanket and this rectangle granny blanket pattern is awesome. You don’t have to join squares and it works up so nicely. Plus I love using various skeins of yarn to work up a unique blanket for donation.

I do just a few mods on the original crochet pattern. For the joining corner, I add my yarn at the chain 1 corner then chain 3 and work 2 more DC stitches at the corner. So I have basically 3 DCs at the corner to start a new color. I then continue around the blanket following the pattern until I get back to the beginning of the round. I work 3 DCs in the same corner space when I started and then chain 1 and join to the top of the beginning chain 3. Makes for the neat corner and the join looks better in my opinion.

If I am not changing colors, after the join at the corner, I turn my work so I am looking at the back of the blanket. I slip stitch back into the corner chain 1 space. Then turn my work back to the right side of the blanket and work 2 DCs into the same chain 1 space. So I have 3 DCs at start of corner counting the chain 3 as a DC. Again I think this corner joining tip looks better then slip stitching over several stitches to reach the corner.

Green Round Ripple

With the weather cooling off a bit, I was inspired to crochet one of my favorite blanket patterns. Here is a round ripple throw that I crocheted for a local Veteran’s program. This pattern is the Round Ripple that Crochetville’s Aggie May created.

Here is a close-up on the edging. I did two rounds of single crochet (SC) to finish off the trim on the blanket throw. Final width is 44 inches wide.

The round ripple was crocheted using several different shades of green vintage yarn that was donated to me. A kind lady from Ravelry donated two big boxes of yarn to me for charity crafting. It has been put to good use for hats, Christmas stockings and blankets for Warmth for Warriors and other Veteran’s needs.

Latest Round Ripple Blanket

Here is my latest round ripple blanket that I have been working on. I was lucky enough to get a few more brown skeins of yarn donated to me so I could finish it up. There are no stores anymore in my immediate area that sell yarn. The local senior center that donates yarn to me was shut down for months so I wasn’t able to get any yarn from them either. Last week they opened back up and I was so excited to go in and obtain yarn from them to finish this blanket.

Finished size is 52 inch wide. This blanket will be donated back to the senior center for their Veterans Outreach Program. Hopefully some Vet will enjoy the blanket and find comfort in using this blanket crocheted with lots of love.

Veterans Round Ripple Blanket

I just finished up this round ripple blanket for a local Veterans Outreach Program. I thought it would be timely to post about it in honor of Veterans Day. This 12-point round ripple is mostly crocheted with some scrap yarns and a few skeins of vintage yarn.

I just love crocheting round ripples as you just can’t go wrong with color combinations. It seems that no matter what mash-up I do with yarns, it always comes out looking good. The local Veterans facility gave me many of the skeins used in this project. And while I tried to keep colors coordinated, it all worked out nicely. This round ripple pattern is from Aggie May of Crochetville. If you have problems finding the pattern, just send me an email and I will help you out. Finished size of my round ripple is 47 inches wide which should make a nice throw or wheelchair lapghan.


So in honor of Veterans Day 2019, thank you Veterans, active military and those who gave all. We are forever in your debt for keeping our country safe and free.
