Need a quick and easy gift idea? How about crocheting around the edges of a store-bought dishcloth. Here are a few inexpensive dishcloths I bought and by adding a quick handmade edging you have a pretty little gift.
Here is a closeup showing the simple single crochet edging.
To crochet the edging around the dishcloth, I used a small C (2.75 mm) crochet hook. It easily goes through the thin dishcloth and just attach at any corner.
Crocheting towel toppers for Christmas gifts has been at the top of my project list this year. Here are a few towels I made using the double layered method that requires no cutting or sewing. Just click on the link for a picture tutorial that will show how easy these double layer towels can be crocheted. I love these towels as they are double thick and hold up longer than the thin kitchen towels.
All of these towel toppers were crocheted using the waffle towel topper pattern. The red Christmas tree towel is a smaller novelty towel that I bought for 80 cents each. Just fold the towel in half
I crocheted another double layered towel topper which is similar to my pointed handle towel topper. The main difference in this towel topper is that it’s a heavier, more basic pattern for the topper. It has a waffle looking texture to the pattern and so I named it the Waffle Towel Topper pattern.
This towel topper is crocheted using sugar n’cream weight cotton yarn with a G crochet hook. I used a kitchen towel folded in half that requires no cutting or sewing. Crocheted Waffle Kitchen Towel Topper Pattern
Materials needed:
1- Kitchen towel (17 inches wide x 26 inches long used but any size will work)
1-1/2 oz. white Sugar and Cream cotton yarn
1- one inch button
Hooks:
#7 Steel hook
G (4 mm) hook

Fold the towel in half and use the steel crochet hook to poke holes and then Sc evenly along the top edge of towel making the stitches with the G hook.
I have been on a towel topper crocheting frenzy lately. Here are several of my recent finish offs to share. These were done without sewing and just crocheting into the top layer of the towel. The first one is crocheted in blue cotton with the towel topper added along the top edge. The towel is folded in half with the topper then added which creates a double layered towel.
Next is a towel also folded in half and green cotton used to add the towel topper.
These towel toppers were made using my free crocheted pointed handle towel topper pattern. They require no cutting and no sewing of the towels. Several people have asked me about the number of stitches to do along the top. The answer is
I participated in a swap called envelope of doom over at Ravelry. The swap involves sending your partner an envelope filled with items that you don’t know what to do with or don’t need. Our group on Ravelry is a group of crafters that enjoy creating treasures from trash. So the goal with the envelope contents was to make useful things from items received. I received some pretty teal colored yarn in my envelope which I used to crochet this kitchen set.
I crocheted this scrubbie using the yarn and added some recycled lettuce netting to one side of the scrubbie.
