Cross Mini Christmas Stockings

Here are some new mini Christmas stockings I crocheted using the waistcoat stitch. This stitch is very challenging for me and hard on my hands. So I have found that if I just work the waistcoat stitching on the chart area, it is much easier. So here are some Christmas stockings I designed where I added crosses and other images to the stocking front.

Here is my free waistcoat stocking pattern. This pattern is the bases for my cross stockings but I only work the waistcoat stitches on the front of the stocking for the cross. The rest of the stocking is worked in regular single crochet (SC) stitches. When you switch from waistcoat to SC, it does create a gap so you have to adjust your stitches by skipping a stitch here and there. It is better to do it on the side of the stocking to hide the change over.

Christmas in July Stockings

Happy 4th of July! It’s a perfect time of the year to celebrate the 4th and Christmas in July with stockings. Of course stockings this time of year honor our country and our troops.

As we continue to make mini Christmas stockings for Warmth for Warriors, here are my latest using red, white, and blue yarn to crochet stockings. I used the fold-over option of this 6 inch Christmas stocking pattern to crochet these stockings.

Mods from original pattern: Work the toe portion of the crochet pattern as written in blue yarn,

Cuffed Christmas Stocking

These mini 6 inch Christmas stockings use an optional fold-over cuff from my original crochet pattern for the mini cuffed Christmas stocking pattern. Below you will find the crochet directions for this optional fold-over cuff using contrasting yarn.

You work the first 8 rows of the stocking pattern but then only chain 8 instead of 12 stitches for the upper leg portion. Then work the pattern the same until you come to the first decrease row. In rows 9 and 10, you want to work the decreases on either side of the back of the heel for shaping.

Finish off the stocking and leave a long tail for closing up the back heel seam.

BLO Mini Christmas Stockings

I have a new mini Christmas stocking pattern to share here at My Recycled Bags. This stocking is crocheted all in the back loop only or BLO as the commonly known abbreviation in the crocheting world.

The pattern can be worked in worst weight yarns for a 6 inch long stocking from top to toe. Or if you use an Aran or light weight yarn, the stockings measure about 5.5 inches long using a G (4 mm) crochet hook. I have shared a few photos here of the basic pattern, but feel free to crochet this pattern in stripes, work the first few rounds of the toe in a different color or even make a scrap yarn stocking by crocheting a mash of colors.

6 inch long stocking with Red Heart WW yarn
5.5 inch long stocking with Aran yarn

G (4 mm) crochet hook

Patriotic Christmas Stockings for the Troops

With the 4th of July just around the corner, I thought it would be a good opportunity to share some patriotic Christmas stockings that I crocheted for the Warmth for Warriors.

Each year we handcraft mini Christmas stockings for the troops and fill them with little items such as soaps, shampoos, chapsticks, candies and other little goodies. The mini stockings are then given out to the troops as little Christmas gifts during the holidays. These little stockings might not seem like much, but we are told they are well received. The mini stockings filled with goodies are a wonderful way to say thank you to our troops and give them a little Christmas cheer during the holidays.

I played around with a few mini Christmas stocking patterns to come up with these patriotic themed socks. The stocking on the left is a cuffed Christmas stocking of mine and the other is a variation of this crochet pattern.
