10 Years Later

Well it’s been 10 years. 10 years is a long time and I’m so happy to say that 10 years later, I am still cancer free. It has been a whole decade since cancer came a-knocking on my door. I was diagnosed triple-positive for breast cancer back then. I fought it hard with surgery, chemo, and radiation.

You can read all my cancer blog posts here if you are interested in my journey. Maybe you are just starting your journey down the cancer road and if so, I hope you find my blog posts helpful. I know I read lots of different blogs from people facing breast cancer and found them not only useful but inspiring. Reading about others’ battles helps us know that we aren’t alone. Reading how others dealt with certain symptoms, how they responded to treatments, how they overcame or even didn’t overcome certain things is important to read about and understand.

Anyway I wanted to share a 10 year cancer free post and celebrate the milestone. I am thankful to God, family and friends through it all. I have been so blessed and just want to encourage anyone out there who might need a positive thought or read a bit of support from someone who has been there. Hang in there you are not alone. Reach out to others, rely on your faith, your family and don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Mother Bear for March

I just finished crocheting my first Mother Bear for the year. I haven’t had too much time lately to work on bears for the Mother Bear Project but did want to crochet one more bear to ship off to the organization.

Here is Mr. Bare Bear who was crocheted using a partial skein of Yarn Bee Fair Isle yarn in purple teal multi colorway. I tried to match a few areas as I crocheted the parts of the bear so there was some matching of colors. I added a simple scarf using the same skein of yarn.

This bear uses the crochet pattern from the Mother Bear Project but it has been adapted to be seamless and without joining. You can read more on my mods of the original crochet pattern here if you’d like more info.

Mini Christmas Stockings for the Troops

The Warmth for Warriors organization is once again requesting homemade mini Christmas stockings for the troops. For the last several years, I have been heading up the yearly drive for the group on Ravelry and promoting the stocking drive on other sites.
Each year we ask for handmade crocheted, knitted, sewn, or woven mini Christmas stockings be crafted to about 6 inches long. They are then filled with little goodies at the Warmth for Warriors headquarters before being sent off in early November to soldiers overseas.

In 2017, over 2800 stockings were stuffed with soaps, shampoo, candies and other little treats as a small gift for our troops for Christmas. The filled socks are just a little gift to brighten spirits for our troops during the holidays.

I have several different free crochet patterns available on my site to inspire people to make stockings for the Warmth for Warriors. I hope that others will be inspired and help us in this year’s campaign. Here is the top-down mini Christmas stocking pattern featured in the above photos.

Round Granny Blanket

I have wanted to try out a round granny blanket pattern for a while now. I used this round granny mandala pattern from Crochet from Raymond. It is an outstanding pattern with lots of pictures to help show how to create a beautiful round granny mandala blanket.

This pattern can be used to blend different colors and assembling color fades creates so stunning granny mandala. One only needs to check out the over 600+ different completed blankets on Ravelry to be inspired to grab some yarn and start your own beautiful round granny mandala.

Here is one more round granny blanket that I just finished today.

Front Post Crocheted Hat

I just finished up this front post crocheted hat using a skein of blue wool. Towards the end of the pattern, I ran short of yarn. This thick front post crocheted hat pattern is a real wool eater and I just didn’t have enough yarn in the solid blue to finish the hat. So I looked through my stash in search of a matching yarn to add to the hat.

I added 3 rounds of Big Twist yarn in royal blues before finishing with 3 single crochet rounds of trim in the solid blue yarn to complete the hat.

Here is a close up of the contrasting yarn I used.

The variegated yarn added a fun and different look to the hat. What at first appeared to be a problem with a shortage of yarn actually turned into a blessing in disguise as I wouldn’t have thought of adding such contrast otherwise.
