Patriotic Christmas Stockings for the Troops

With the 4th of July just around the corner, I thought it would be a good opportunity to share some patriotic Christmas stockings that I crocheted for the Warmth for Warriors.

Each year we handcraft mini Christmas stockings for the troops and fill them with little items such as soaps, shampoos, chapsticks, candies and other little goodies. The mini stockings are then given out to the troops as little Christmas gifts during the holidays. These little stockings might not seem like much, but we are told they are well received. The mini stockings filled with goodies are a wonderful way to say thank you to our troops and give them a little Christmas cheer during the holidays.

I played around with a few mini Christmas stocking patterns to come up with these patriotic themed socks. The stocking on the left is a cuffed Christmas stocking of mine and the other is a variation of this crochet pattern.

Below is one more cuffed mini stocking I crocheted in red, white, and blue yarns.

Round Ripple Blankets

I have been working hard to use up some of my old stash yarn. As many of us have, I have bags of small balls of yarn and partial skeins of leftover yarn. Some of the yarn doesn’t match up well together but I have really been trying to use it up while doing charity crafting.

Here is the first I completed which is a round ripple lapghan. The lapghan is 35 inches wide and will be going to out the Warmth for Warriors blanket drive.

Next are two different baby blankets I crocheted for Kathryn over at Crochetville. These are going to this year’s NICU blanket drive that she heads up each year.

I used several bits of old Lullaby variegated yarn and mint green yarn in both baby blankets. I did finally run out and finished with some white Red Heart SS to finish off the scalloped blanket.

I crocheted this baby blanket for 15 rounds in the Aggie May’s round ripple pattern. Then I did a new edging for the final 16th round. Here are the details on how I crocheted my scalloped edging.

Crocheted Towel Toppers

I bought several holiday towels after Christmas last year. They were marked down 50% and more on some of these. I decided to start early and add towel toppers to them. I will use them for Christmas gifts and charity auction items for the upcoming holiday season.

All of these towels are what I call double-layered as I don’t cut the towels in half or sew the top edges. I simply fold the towel in half and crochet the towel toppers directly into both layers of the towel. This creates an extra heavy towel which I think is better than the single layer towel with towel toppers.

These two towel toppers were crocheted using my pointed handle towel topper pattern. I should also add that all of my crocheted towel topper patterns are free.

The next towel has the waffle towel topper added to it. I used a red jingle bell for the button closure.

Mother Bear for March

I just finished crocheting my first Mother Bear for the year. I haven’t had too much time lately to work on bears for the Mother Bear Project but did want to crochet one more bear to ship off to the organization.

Here is Mr. Bare Bear who was crocheted using a partial skein of Yarn Bee Fair Isle yarn in purple teal multi colorway. I tried to match a few areas as I crocheted the parts of the bear so there was some matching of colors. I added a simple scarf using the same skein of yarn.

This bear uses the crochet pattern from the Mother Bear Project but it has been adapted to be seamless and without joining. You can read more on my mods of the original crochet pattern here if you’d like more info.

Mini Christmas Stockings for the Troops

The Warmth for Warriors organization is once again requesting homemade mini Christmas stockings for the troops. For the last several years, I have been heading up the yearly drive for the group on Ravelry and promoting the stocking drive on other sites.
Each year we ask for handmade crocheted, knitted, sewn, or woven mini Christmas stockings be crafted to about 6 inches long. They are then filled with little goodies at the Warmth for Warriors headquarters before being sent off in early November to soldiers overseas.

In 2017, over 2800 stockings were stuffed with soaps, shampoo, candies and other little treats as a small gift for our troops for Christmas. The filled socks are just a little gift to brighten spirits for our troops during the holidays.

I have several different free crochet patterns available on my site to inspire people to make stockings for the Warmth for Warriors. I hope that others will be inspired and help us in this year’s campaign. Here is the top-down mini Christmas stocking pattern featured in the above photos.
